Understanding the 4.0 Grading Scale
Your College GPA is a weighted average. This means a 4-credit science lab affects your overall GPA much more heavily than a 1-credit PE class.
Standard Grade Values
- A (Excellent) 4.0
- B (Good) 3.0
- C (Average) 2.0
- D (Poor) 1.0
- F (Fail) 0.0
Plus/Minus Grading
Many universities use a plus/minus system. A plus (+) adds 0.3 to the base value, and a minus (-) subtracts 0.3.
For example, a B+ is a 3.3, while a B- is a 2.7. Note: An A+ is usually still capped at a 4.0 at most standard universities.

- Cum Laude ("With Honor"): Typically awarded to students with a GPA of 3.50 to 3.69.
- Magna Cum Laude ("With Great Honor"): Typically awarded to students with a GPA of 3.70 to 3.89.
- Summa Cum Laude ("With Highest Honor"): Typically awarded to students with a GPA of 3.90 to 4.00+.
